Jumping is a delicate balance between strength, power, and deceleration. An art and a science.

I, myself, am a notoriously bad jumper. I actually think one of the things that made me a good blocker was that my feet wanted to stay firmly planted to the ground at all times. Like, all the time. It makes you hard to move if your feet won't lift off the ground.

But there are times when being a better jumper has helped me. That springiness makes it possible for me to jump the apex (a little) if I ever have to get to the front of the pack quickly or take a star pass. It also means that I can produce more force through each strike of my feet and that gives me the speed I need to chase after jammers and swallow them whole. And, once I got used to it, I realized that jumping can be kind of fun.

It's a delicate balance of increasing your STRENGTH and muscular endurance, boosting your POWER, and nailing the MECHANICS of a good jump. Equal parts body training and brain training. Jump training can be designed to help you get those hops while still ensuring that you are strong, solid, and stable for your new (or current season).

I promise: it's not all just box jumps over and over until you die.
